False Documents

Presenter: Rob Davidson

Fiction has a long history of offering “false documents”: stories that are presented in the guise of a rhetorical mode (like a letter, or a “how to” guide, or a false biography) but are of course completely made up. The epistolary story, for example, is one of the oldest Western forms of fiction. (Think Richardson, George Eliot, and so on.) In this workshop, we’ll look at some examples of this clever and playful form, and then take a stab at writing our own false document.
