Tasting the Concrete: Sensory Imagery in Poetry

Presenter: John LaPine

Pain. Bravery. Love. Although powerful concepts, these words become vague and lose their meaning once inside our creative writing. One way for poets (and other writers) to bring these abstractions back to reality — to renew them in a refreshing way — is to marry the abstract with the concrete. In this workshop, participants will explore the sights, sounds, smells, and other sensory details that ground our readers to our writing.
