The World as a Lens: Writers as Anthropologists

Heather Altfeld

Poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers all utilize some of the techniques of emerging anthropologists as they work to understand the lives of characters–be it themselves or others.  At the crossroads of this work writers all need a deep and somewhat detached idea of culture. In this workshop, participants will read a small handful of illuminative examples and then begin the process of micro-field-work.
